I was plucked from Caracas, Venezuela, to my father's hometown in Spain at 3 months of age. There the Aparisi clan speaks Valencian, a kissing cousin of Catalan. I have moved many times since then and in the process learned Portuguese in São Paulo, Brazil, where I lived through my early teens. English came to me in Washington, D.C. during the Watergate era. Graduated from University of Maryland in Journalism in 1982. Worked as a Spanish and Portuguese escort interpreter for the State Department in 1984. Took an almost 3 decade hiatus into Spanish and English language journalism with Voice of America, Reuters and the BBC World Service. International broadcasting work took me from Washington, D.C. to Miami, Buenos Aires and London. Completed a Spanish language master degree in Mass Communications with FIU in 2012.
