NAJIT 2020 Elections: Call for Nominations

NAJIT’s Nominations Committee is pleased to announce the call for nominations for our annual elections. The results will be announced at our Annual Meeting on June 6, 2020, during the NAJIT 41st Annual Conference at Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.

This year, NAJIT will be holding an election for four board members.

The terms of current Chair Armando Ezquerra Hasbun, Secretary Teresa Salazar, Treasurer Claudia Rubio Samulowitz and Director Aimee Benavides will expire on June 6, 2020. All four Board members will seek reelection.

Who is Eligible?

Under NAJIT’s Bylaws, any Active member who attains two years of continuous membership as an Active Member in good standing as of February 29, 2020 shall be eligible for nomination to the Board of Directors.

All NAJIT officers and directors serve on a volunteer basis.

Nomination Deadline

Members are invited to submit nominations to the Nominations Committee. Nominations must be received before close of business on February 21, 2020. Nominee documents are due to the Nominations Committee by February 29th.

How does the Nomination Process Work?

Members may nominate themselves or may be nominated by fellow members. We invite all members to recommend potential candidates to the Nominations Committee, or to volunteer themselves to be considered.

All nominations should include the nominee’s complete name and contact information, and a statement explaining why the nominee would make a good addition to the board of directors.

The Nominations Committee has the responsibility of proposing the names of candidates for the election to the members, taking into account the need to ensure, to the extent possible, a balanced slate as far as language, geographical location and professional activities are concerned.

Only members who meet the eligibility criteria established in NAJIT bylaws (that is, who have been active members continuously and in good standing since February 2017) may be nominated to the Board of Directors. Members uncertain of their status may verify it with headquarters.

Nominees who comply with the eligibility criteria will be contacted directly by the committee. They will receive information on what is entailed in being a Board member. They will also be asked to send more detailed information, including a short biography, a CV stating their areas of expertise, and a formal candidate statement which will be published. Only nominees who send the complete information requested shall be considered.

All nominations should be emailed to the Nominations Committee at:

If you plan to put names forward for nomination, please contact the potential nominees first, explaining your intention and the fact that a nomination does not guarantee a formal invitation to run for office.

NAJIT Governance

Elections are an excellent opportunity to help shape the future of NAJIT. Membership and member involvement are vital to furthering NAJIT’s mission.
