NAJIT’s Nomination Committee is pleased to announce the call for nominations for our annual elections. The term of current Treasurer Hilda Shymanik expires on May 18, 2019. This year, NAJIT will be holding an election for one board member. No board members will be leaving due to term limits. Elections will take place at our Annual Meeting on May 18th, 2019 at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel in Nashville, TN during the annual conference.
Who is Eligible?
Under NAJIT’s Bylaws, any Active member who attains two years of continuous membership as an Active Member in good standing as of December 31, 2018 shall be eligible for nomination to the Board of Directors.
All NAJIT officers and directors serve on a volunteer basis.
Members are invited to submit nominations to the Nominations Committee chaired by Heidi Cazes. Nominations must be received before close of business on December 19th, 2018. Nominee documents are due to the Nominations Committee by December 31st.
How does the Nomination Process Work?
Members may nominate themselves or may be nominated by fellow members. We invite all members to recommend potential candidates to the Nominations Committee, or to volunteer themselves to be considered. All nominations should include the nominee’s complete name and contact information, and a statement explaining why the nominee would make a good addition to the board of directors.
The Nominations Committee has the responsibility of proposing the names of candidates for the election to the members, taking into account the need to ensure, to the extent possible, a balanced slate as far as language, geographical location and professional activities are concerned. Only members who meet the eligibility criteria established in NAJIT bylaws (that is, who have been active members continuously and in good standing since December 2016) may be nominated to the Board of Directors. Members uncertain of their status may verify it with headquarters.
Nominees who comply with the eligibility criteria will be contacted directly by the committee. They will receive information on what is entailed in being a Board member. They will also be asked to send more detailed information, including a short biography, a CV stating their areas of expertise, and a formal candidate statement which will be published. Only nominees who send the complete information requested shall be considered.

Elections are an excellent opportunity to help shape the future of NAJIT. Membership and member involvement are vital to furthering NAJIT’s mission.
