Call for Proposals

Call for Proposals

NAJIT is now accepting presentation proposals for its 44th Annual Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada, from June 2 through June 4, 2023.

NAJIT’s Annual Conference is the premier event for language professionals and stakeholders of language services in the judiciary and beyond. Our highly interactive sessions provide participants with relevant content and practical tools they can apply in their work. We invite you to help shape the future of interpreting and translation by proposing a session today. Lead the conversation by preparing a session proposal.

Proposals may be submitted for either a pre-conference workshop, a main conference session, or both as long as they are submitted separately.

Submission Timeline

Opens: November 15, 2022
Closes: December 12, 2022
Confirmation of Acceptance: February 15, 2023
Conference: June 2-4, 2023
PRE-CONFERENCE WORKSHOPS:  Friday, June 2, 2023
MAIN CONFERENCE SESSIONS: Saturday, June 3, and Sunday, June 4, 2023
  • Pre-conference workshops are skill-building presentations lasting 3 or 6 hours. Main conference sessions are 60 or 90 minutes.
  • Sessions may be language-neutral or language-specific. Attendance is limited for the pre-conference workshops to allow participants more significant interaction with presenters and the opportunity for more personalized feedback.
  • Presenters do not need to be NAJIT members to submit a proposal.
  • Pre-conference workshop presenters receive an honorarium and some reimbursement of travel costs. If you present both a pre-conference workshop and a main conference session, you will receive a complimentary registration for the main conference. See below for complete details.
  • All other presenters receive a 15% discount off the member registration rate for the conference.
Submit a proposal to share your knowledge and experience, bring emerging issues to light, or question current paradigms. Proposals may focus on any area of translation and interpreting, such as:
  1. Education and training of spoken and signed interpreters and translators
  2. Skill-building for consecutive or simultaneous interpreting, note-taking, etc.
  3. Ethics applied to the practice of translation and interpretation
  4. Transcription and Translation, Transliteration, Translation, and Editing
  5. Interpreting modalities, techniques, and best practices
  6. Interpreting in specific settings: immigration, proffers, depositions
  7. Exam-taking strategies for certification candidates (Note: Sessions labeled exam prep will not, typically, be granted continuing education credit)
  8. Research trends and applications to the practice of interpreting and translation
  9. Technologies and trends affecting the practice of the profession
  10. Intersections of practice and theory in translation and interpreting
  11. The intersection of legal language in other settings (medical, community, etc.)
  12. Best business practices, career planning, and mapping success for linguists and language professionals
  13. Panels on topics of specific interest to the profession

Presenting at the NAJIT conference is a privilege and a mark of distinction in the profession. Our attendees expect and deserve the best content that we can provide. Proposals are evaluated and suggestions may be offered to meet quality standards and space/time limitations. Acceptance notices will be sent in early 2023.

The deadline for submitting proposals for both pre-conference workshops and main conference sessions is December 12, 2022.

If you have any questions please contact NAJIT at info@najit.org. For more information about NAJIT’s conference, please view our past events web page. Details about this year’s event can be found here.
